Apparently, evacuation as deadly as hurricane in Liberty Co Texas.

Hurricane Rita's assault on Texas and Louisiana has been linked to at least four deaths in Liberty County, including a couple who were killed when a tree fell on their home, authorities said Monday.

The ... two victims apparently were killed while sleeping late Friday or early Saturday, Koen said. He said Bertha Costello, 56, and Thomas Lucero, 43, had tried to evacuate but returned to their home in the Knights Forest community because of heavy traffic.

Koen said he found the bodies in bed after a relative became concerned and asked him to check on the couple.

[Other] fatalities included two elderly people who apparently died from extreme heat and lack of water late last week while trying to evacuate as the storm approached, emergency officials said. The victims, whose names were not released, were riding in separate vehicles that were caught in the massive traffic jam on Texas 146, said Mike Koen, spokesman for the county's ambulance service.
