"Death Bus" Company shut down by Transportation department

The U.S. Department of Transportation has ordered Global Limo Inc., the bus operator involved in a fatal bus fire on Sept. 23, to stop all commercial motor vehicle operations immediately.

The Pharr-based carrier was hired to evacuate senior citizen residents at the Brighton Gardens assisted living center in the Bellaire. With 38 passengers on board, the bus was headed north on Interstate 45 to Dallas to escape the threat of Hurricane Rita when it caught fire, killing 23 people.

In its review investigators, the transportation department found that Global Limo posed an imminent hazard to the safety of the motoring public, meaning that the condition of the vehicles, drivers and the commercial motor vehicle operations are likely to result in serious injury or death if not discontinued immediately.
