U.S. Officials Believe Zarqawi Not Killed in Mosul Gunfight

Excerpt from article:
U.S. officials said Monday that they do not believe Abu Musab Zarqawi, the Jordanian insurgent leader, was among those killed in a gunfight in northern Iraq Sunday.

"I do not believe that we got him," said Zelmay Khalilzad, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq. "But his days are numbered. We're closer to that goal but unfortunately we didn't get him in Mosul."

Of course they didn't get him. Even if they got him "they" (our troops) didn't get him as much as collect him for the Iraqis. As down further the article reports, the locals, the Iraqis have been trying to lead the troops to al Zarqawi. Like they led them to Saddam.

It is the Iraqis that will get Zarqawi. It is the height of arrogance for Ambassador Khalizad to even hint that 'we' will do it.

In a little while it appears that the Iraqi army will even be able to do their own grunt work too. It's time for us to start pulling out.

I wonder what the Bush administration is waiting for--the ability to grandstand through one more election?
